I first met Teacher Dorothy when I was 12. I was at Grade 4 by that point, but was quickly losing interest. Piano felt like a chore, even if I was able to excel at it. Teacher Dorothy has an infectious passion for music and she helped me discover my love for the piano.
20 years on, I still enjoy my ad-hoc lessons with Teacher Dorothy, to work on the musical pieces that interest me. Even at 32, I find that I still have room for improvement. Each session with her is a reminder that the work needed to polish a song can be difficult at times, but that's what makes it fun, and the end result will be worth it. Only a teacher like Dorothy, with her passion for music, could have nurtured this mindset in me.
I wholeheartedly recommend Teacher Dorothy to any parent who is looking for a kind, passionate, and committed teacher.
Today, I run my own school, The Radiant Spectrum, a piano school that caters exclusively to children with special needs. I am able to do this because of my journey with Teacher Dorothy.
Thank you for being such a wonderful teacher and mentor, I am grateful that our paths crossed.
As an adult piano learner, I would highly recommend Teacher Dorothy to anyone who wishes to pick up piano at any age or level of competency.
Through her years of experience, she can astutely identify the strengths and weaknesses in her students and individualize her coaching in different aspects of piano techniques, music theory and performance.
I have benefitted immensely and seen improvement in my playing and appreciation of music in the few months under her tutelage. Teacher Dorothy is patient, encouraging and most of all, passionate in the teaching of piano.
Thankful to have her as a teacher and mentor in this piano journey.
Aunty Dorothy taught me piano since I was 11 years old. She was able to quickly pick out things that I was good at and got me to work on them, and at the same time found the skills that interested me, and got me to practice them.
This gave me a lot of joy and motivation to learn the piano.
As I was not taking any exams, she encouraged my parents to send me for piano exams, and within 5 years, I had my grade 8 in piano and grade 5 in music theory.
She is a patient and nurturing teacher who cares for her students' interests and is able to engage them in learning the piano.
Thanks to her, I am now a music teacher in a secondary school, continuing to use my passion for music that was honed by aunty Dorothy as a professional career.
Sherlyn was with a piano teacher, where we thought she was doing well under her tutelage, until when we managed to secure a time slot with Dorothy.
We immediately see the positive difference in Dorothy’s teaching style and her persistence in insisting to teach Sherlyn the fundamental and we see the improvement in Sherlyn’s playing.
We see that Dorothy adjusted her approach to Sherlyn to encourage Sherlyn to build bonds with her and thus causes her to continue to be motivated to learn piano.
Dorothy is a very experienced piano teacher whose passion is to impart her knowledge and technics to her student.
We feel so blessed that teacher Dorothy is our girl’s teacher :)
